NEWS RELEASE
SOCIETY FOR ANIMALS IN DISTRESS
*************************
The Society for Animals in Distress has received the forensic report with regard to our shelter building on 33 Perini Rd.

Unfortunately, the requirements to rehabilitate the premises are beyond our capabilities and are such that the insurance will not extend coverage for repairs. Therefore, the decision has been made to permanently vacate that location and sell it on the open market.

But, for the good news – with immense support and investigation from our Mayor, Chris Patrie we have a new location.

This new property and building will offer much more potential for our future needs than 33 Perini could. We have entered a 3-year lease agreement for part of 37 Timber Road and the required renovations will commence early in the New Year so we can offer our services once again very shortly thereafter.

The reality of leasing a new building will add greatly to our annual operating budget so increased fundraising, crowdfunding and requests for donations will continue and expand. We also seek handy persons and contractors that could assist with internal renovations of the building.

With the relocation, we will also be formally changing our name to the winning entry from the rebranding contest held in the past. We will be legally changing to Furever Homes and Lodging, Society for Animals in Distress.

The rebranding is to divorce from the negative impression of the acronym SAD because, while the crisis event was indeed sad, the recent results are something that is exciting for our future and the future of the animals. We will have a membership drive in the New Year for our new building and branding. We ask that everyone help us in moving away from SAD and toward Furever Homes to promote a much happier ending to a horrible event.

We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who offered support: the City of Elliot Lake and staff, our mayor and council and everyone who donated money and voiced their encouragement during our crisis.
