A violent incident in the Emergency Department at Elliot Lake St. Joseph's General Hospital Friday has resulted in an ambulance bypass protocol for the emergency department.

"Yes, sadly there has been an incident. No one has been physically injured and we are very thankful for this. There has been extensive damage to the emergency room department," hospital CEO Pierre Ozolins told ElliotLakeToday.

He continued, "Our staff are assessing the damage and we are working with our community partners to get up to seeing patients again and opening the department. We are currently on ambulance bypass."
