After the City Council made its decision to replace the Kiwanis fall Field with a pump track, the City of Elliot Lake announced the track would be completed by fall of 2024. The full text of its release follows.

This all-wheels asphalt pump track will provide fun for toddlers to older adults. Whether you ride a bike, scooter, rollerblade, or in a wheelchair this track is for beginners to more experienced riders depending on comfort level. This YouTube video shows a pump track in Port Angeles, Washington being enjoyed by those of all ages and abilities.

The project will be brought through to the City's Accessibility Advisory Committee for comment and input on accessible features such as lighting, seating, shelter, entrance/exit onto track, and parking.

Thank you to BHP for donating $250,000 from their Community Support Funds for this project.

While this track will be built where a baseball field is currently located, the City has three more ballfields that will be updated and maintained for user groups to continue playing the sport they love. There is Parsons Park (1 field) and Burley Park (2 fields). The plan to retire the Kiwanis baseball field has been in the works and passed by resolution of Council in 2013, with the grand plan being to add a splash pad, a permanent outdoor rink, and a bike track and skate park.

This plan has taken many years to fulfill after Council elections, staff changes, budget processes, and the pandemic. The City is finally making progress with this plan and fulfilling next steps of installing a larger outdoor rink and upgrading of boards with the hard work of the Age Friendly Advisory Committee/Outdoor Rink Working Group and local businesses and community groups, as well as installing an All-Wheels Park!

While the Kiwanis baseball field will be utilized by user groups this summer (2024), Parsons Park may not be due to possible work being done on the arena.
