Residents who may otherwise celebrate Christmas alone are invited to dinner with others in the community during Christmas.

Elliot Lake council endorsed a request from the Al Collett Memorial Christmas dinner committee to host the dinner at the Collins Hall on Christmas Day. The dinner has become a tradition and is free to “those who have no place to go at Christmas,” the committee stated in a letter to council asking for use of the hall and equipment.

“We will require access to the hall on December 23 and 24 to begin setting up and, of course, on Christmas Day from early morning until 8pm. We may have to go back on December 27 to finish cleaning up,” the committee said in its request.

This year marks the 34th year for the holiday dinner.

Last year some 300 dinners were served with more anticipated this Christmas. It’s expected that there will be two sittings for the dinner. Meal delivery is also available.
