Forest fire smoke has caused high levels of air pollution in the Sault area, Environment Canada says.

Elliot Lake-Ranger Lake and Blind River - Thessalon, Espanola - Killarney, and Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake were added to Environment Canada's list of regions impacted by forest fire smoke this afternoon.

Areas north of Elliot Lake, including Sault Ste. Marie - St.Joseph Island and further north in Agawa - Lake Superior Provincial Park, Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay, are also impacted.

Environment Canada says poor air quality and reduced visibilities are expected, and southerly winds are expected to push the smoke northward out of the area on Wednesday.
