Active COVID cases increase by 16, hospitalizations up 3 in Friday update: APH

The number of hospitalizations in Algoma increased by three in Algoma Public Health's latest COVID-19 update.

APH is reporting 14 hospitalizations in the region as part Thursday's update, which is an increase of three from Thursday's report.

The number of active cases in the region rose by 16 to 617. There are also three active cases in Algoma that are non-Algoma residents who are temporarily in the region.

The number of new confirmed cases in Algoma rose to 5,027, up by 51 from Thursday's update while the number of resolved cases rose by 35 to 4,410.

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
