The Elliot Lake Wildcats NOJHL club will be allowed to fly the team’s flag outside the Centennial Arena.

Council, at its meeting Monday evening, approved a request by the club to fly its flag outside the arena it calls home.

The team had originally asked council if it could fly its flag over the entrance to arena and would replace the Elliot Lake flag at the same location.

That request was deferred by council pending additional information from the club.

After some stick handling, the team agreed to put up its own flag pole to fly its flag and the decision was made that it would fly over the parking lot of the arena.

“A fresh city flag is now flying at the front entrance of Centennial Arena,” a staff report stated. “The Wildcats team have purchased a pole. Staff advised the we have flag pole brackets in stock, and should the request be approved by council, a bracket is proposed to be installed on the side of the arena.”

The flag will fly during the Wildcats’ season.
