Local OPP conducted a blitz of traffic going through the Causley Street construction zone in Blind River.

In a letter to council, OPP reported that over a four-day period early this month, officers handed out 31 provincial offence notices with the majority of charges being speeding offences. Other charges included interfering with traffic, fail to yield on through highway, and tractor trailer log book offences.

The blitz coincided with a recent reduction of the speed limit from 50 km/h to 40 km/h in the construction zone.

Mayor Sue Jensen said the reduction was necessary to protect workers on the project.
