Michael Mantha, MPP

Michael Mantha
Member of Provincial Parliament
Algoma-Manitoulin

October 2024 will mark thirteen years of continuous service for Michael Mantha as the MPP for Algoma-Manitoulin. To keep up with local issues, Michael prioritizes meeting residents and attending community events year-round. He maintains that extensive travel across such a land rich in beauty, resources, and people is his privilege.

Michael has a proven record as a strong voice for rural healthcare, safe road conditions, northern jobs and economic development, and affordability for northerners. Throughout his career, Michael has worked hard to improve the lives of Northerners. He sits as an independent Member without party affiliation.
Michael is a born-and-bred Northerner. He has spent his lifetime working in a wide variety of jobs in the region, having lived and worked in the same communities that he now represents. Like his fellow Northerners, he beams with pride when sharing his love for Algoma-Manitoulin with colleagues and guests, one of Canada’s most amazing places to live. But he also understands the limitations and realities that we face in our region.

Michael has introduced several important pieces of legislation, including the removal of the HST from home heating bills, updating regulations to reflect technological progress standards for ATVs, a bill to ensure grandparent rights are considered in matters of child custody, legislation to require that all ore from Ontario mines be processed within the province and his Private Member’s Bill which received unanimous consent calling on the Province to develop an integrated strategy to battle Lyme disease in Ontario. He championed improvements to the Northern Health Travel Grant to ensure that Northerners get necessary medical treatment without worrying about the financial burden

Michael is well regarded by his legislative colleagues of all party stripes for his compassion, commitment, sense of fair play and unpredictable “joie de vivre.” Michael’s face and warm handshake are well known all across the riding.
