ElliotLakeToday received the following note from East Algoma OPP Constable Phil Young regarding the first responders appreciation event originally planned to take place Wednesday evening:
Sorry to say but the planned event for tomorrow evening will be cancelled. The OPP do not want to contravene the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA) by possibly causing gatherings of people in excess of five, and not maintaining proper social distancing. We are currently exploring others avenues to express appreciation.
I thank you all for your continued support regardless. I would also like to thank the public and citizens of our communities for the overwhelming positive response we’ve received thus far pertaining to this special event. It’s nice to see people support their communities in a positive fashion during these unprecedented times.
Once again, I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
