Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) revealed Thursday that there is one new case of COVID-19 in the area.

Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) revealed Thursday that there is one new case of COVID-19 in the area.

It was also reported there are now 29 cases being actively monitored. This is a downward change from the 37 active cases reported on Wednesday.

Since the pandemic was declared in March 2020, there have been 576 total COVID-19 cases reported to the Sudbury health unit, with 547 of those cases being resolved locally.

As to where that new case occurred, the PHSD daily update page reported that one case was found to have occurred within the Greater Sudbury Area.

With respect to possible causes of the new case, PHSD reported one new case listed as outbreak related, three cases linked to a close contact of a confirmed case and one case that is travel related. The numbers do not correspond with the new case count because the health unit does not list specifically when the causes are determined.

At Health Sciences North, five patients are confirmed with COVID-19 for today Feb. 18. According to the HSN daily update web page, one of those patients is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). There are also nine additional admitted patients currently being investigated for COVID-19 at this time. One of those nine is being treated in the ICU.

On the provincial COVID-19 roster today, the Ontario government daily website reported there were 1,038 new confirmed COVID-19 cases across the province. Also today, the province reported 44 new deaths had occurred in the previous 24 hours. Both of those numbers are down from the numbers reported Tuesday.
