Public Health Sudbury records seven new COVID-19 cases for Feb. 13

One new death linked to Pioneer Manor outbreak brings region’s total number of deaths to 12

Public Health Sudbury and Districts reported Saturday there are seven new cases of COVID-19 in the area. 

This brings the total number of active known cases being monitored by Public Health to 39. Since the pandemic was declared almost a year ago, there have been 566 total COVID-19 cases reported to the Sudbury health unit, with 527 of those cases being resolved. Three cases have resolved since yesterday’s report.

The Feb. 13 update also reported one new death, which is linked to the outbreak declared at Pioneer Manor on Feb. 7. That death was announced just after 3 p.m. today.

With respect to where the cases occurred, the PHSD daily update page reported that all seven cases were found to have occurred within the Greater Sudbury Area.

In terms of possible causes of the new cases, PHSD reported two of the new cases were linked to an outbreak, while five occurred through close contact with another case. Of the people associated with the outbreak, two of the cases are male, while five are female.  

At Health Sciences North, there are seven patients confirmed with COVID-19 for today, Feb. 13. According to the HSN daily update web page, two of those patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). There are eight additional admitted patients currently being investigated for COVID-19 at this time.

Provincially, Public Health Ontario today reported 1,300 new cases of COVID-19, an increase of more than 200 cases over the previous day, and 19 new deaths. The majority are in the Greater Toronto Area: 433 in Toronto, 253 in Peel and 116 in York Region.
