Public health reports 55 new COVID-19 cases

Public Health Sudbury and Districts is reporting 55 new cases of COVID-19 for March 11, bringing the total case to 869.

All 55 cases are in Greater Sudbury. There are now 263 active cases, up from 211 reported the day before, with three cases resolved.

There has been a decrease in the number of cases reported to have tested positive for variants of concern. Currently, there are 98 cases that have screen positive, down from 107 the day before. There are still only three cases with confirmed variants of concern.

With respect to possible causes of the new cases, PHSD reported 53 cases as "under investigation. Two cases were reported as related to outbreaks.

PHSD also reports general demographics each day to provide basic information on the people who are becoming infected. This shows that the majority of cases are persons in the 20 to 39 age category with 308 total cases (15 new cases).

The next highest number was 229 cases for the 19 and under age group (18 new cases).

The  next highest number was 186 cases for the 40 to 59 age group (12 new cases).

Seniors in the 60 to 79 age group had only 105 cases total (three new cases), and people aged 80 and over were the lowest category with 62 cases (one new case) and two new cases where the age was not specified.  

At Sudbury's Health Sciences North there is one patient in the hospital confirmed with COVID-19 for March 11. There are no COVID patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). There are 18 additional admitted patients currently being investigated for COVID-19 at this time, all in other units at HSN.

On the provincial COVID-19 roster today, the Ontario government daily website reported there were 1,092 new confirmed COVID-19 cases across the province. Also today, the province reported 10 new deaths had occurred in the previous 24 hours.
