Ontario confirms 1,487 new COVID cases today

Public Health Ontario has reported 1,487 new cases of COVID-19 today as well as 10 deaths and 992 recoveries. 

The deaths reported today include one person between 40 and 59 years old, three people between 60 and 79 years old and six people over the age of 80. Four of the people who died were residents in long-term care homes.

There were 58 people hospitalized with the coronavirus since yesterday's report and nine COVID-19 patients have been admitted to intensive care units. 

Of today's 1,487 new cases, 392 are from Peel Region, 508 are from Toronto, and 170 are from York Region. 

According to Public Health Ontario, there are approximately 40 case records from Toronto Public Health from Nov. 14 that are still unreported due to a technical error, which has impacted the daily counts. 

Today, 974 cases included in the report are individuals between 20 and 59 years old. There are also 62 new cases confirmed in long-term care facility residents. 

There were 106 school-related cases reported since Friday. Ther have now been 3,387 school-related cases reported with 1,143 of those reported in the last 14 days. 

Since yesterday's report, provincial labs have processed 33,351 COVID-19 tests, and is reporting a 4.1 per cent of people who were tested for COVID, tested positive. 

Of the 12,830 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID in Ontario currently, 500 people are hospitalized, which is up from 479 yesterday. There are 125 COVID patients in intensive care units, up from 118 yesterday) and 70 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 67 yesterday). 

To date, the province has confirmed 95,496 cases of COVID-19 and has reported 79,295 recoveries and 3,371 deaths. 

There are 106 known active cases in Northern Ontario.

All but one of the Northern Ontario health unit regions are currently classified as green under the province’s new regional restrictions. It means the areas are permitted the broadest allowance of Stage 3 activities.

The exception is Public Health Sudbury and District, which is in the yellow (protect) restriction level.

The breakdown of Public Health Ontario data for the rate of cases for Northern Ontario health units is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 58 cases, rate of 50.7 per 100,000 people. There are 10 known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 15.

  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 54 cases, rate of 41.6 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 56 cases. There are four known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 12.

  • Porcupine Health Unit: 104, rate of 124.6 per 100,000 people. There are four known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 14.

  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 208 cases, rate of 104.5 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 209 case. There are 43 known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 15.

  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 18 cases, rate of 55.1 per 100,000 people. There is one known active case. The last case was reported Nov. 15.

  • Northwestern Health Unit: 86 cases, rate of 98.1 per 100,000 people. The health unit has also reported two probable cases. There are seven known active cases. The last case was reported Nov. 14.

  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 156 cases, rate of 104 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 160 cases. There are 37 known active cases. The last cases were reported Nov. 15.

The Ontario rate of infection is 642.4.
