Students and staff at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School in Elliot Lake have postponed Epilepsy Awareness Week events which were slated to start March 23 with a flag-raising at city hall.

Principal Andrew Chi said the events set for the week of March 23 to March 27 will be put off due to March Break and the additional two weeks of school closures following the break and mandated by the provincial government. The government announced publicly funded schools will close across the province in a bid to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

“Due to the extended March Break we are postponing Epilepsy Week,” Chi said in a media release. “When we resume classes we will condense the events into one day and we would love to have anyone who is interested to come join us.”

“We have five students with Epilepsy at our school and it is very important to create awareness,” Chi added.
