COVID cases rising in bigger cities could mean a potential rise in smaller towns as well

Dr. Cathy Groh cited examples in Alberta of COVID numbers going up in bigger cities and it having an affect on smaller towns

Elliot Lake Family Health Team member Dr. Cathy Groh has once again reached out on social media with a COVID-19 advisory for people in Elliot Lake and nearby Algoma communities.

"With the average daily number of new cases of COVID-19 continuing to climb in Ontario, the number of patients with COVID-19 requiring ICU care has increased to over 200," she wrote. "As a result, at least one hospital in southern Ontario has had to cancel elective surgeries.

"Southern Ontario, and especially the GTA, has seen the biggest increase in cases. However, we can see in places like Alberta that when numbers climb high enough in the big cities, eventually this spills over into small towns," she continued.

"We can take steps to protect our town. Avoid unnecessary trips to other communities and if you have to travel, practice social distancing and wear a mask indoors. Limit your close contacts to your own household as much as possible."

Dr. Groh also recommends self-isolation if you feel sick and arrange a test by calling the Elliot Lake COVID Assessment Centre at 705-461-8882.
