Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) has declared COVID-19 outbreaks at two local warming shelters and is advising of the potential of a high-risk of public exposure.

A news release Tuesday morning said COVID-19 outbreaks had occurred at the Salvation Army Cedar Place shelter at 261 Cedar Street and also at the YMCA warming shelter at 140 Durham Street.

PHSD said there is a potential high-risk of exposure to the coronavirus for anyone who attended these facilities on recent dates:

  • March 9 for the Salvation Army Cedar Place shelter.
  • March 14 for the YMCA warming Centre.

PHSD said it is working with the service operators to determine if individuals who attended these venues can be contacted directly. However, PHSD admitted it might not have sufficient information to contact everyone who may have been exposed.

With respect to anyone who attended these facilities, PHSD is advising clients to take action.

Carefully self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19:

  • Self-isolate immediately if symptoms develop. Please seek assistance from local service agencies if you require support with self-isolation.
  • Seek testing. Clients can seek testing information through the shelter and warming centre. Public Health is also working closely with partners to provide asymptotic testing to clients. More details will be communicated directly to clients, through those agencies.

Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reminding everyone to follow public health measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 including the more transmissible variants of concern.
