Council Meetings:

  • On Thursday evening March 19, Council held an emergency meeting to review some time sensitive matters:

- Approved the purchase of a new street sweeper to ensure timely delivery for this spring’s street cleaning needs
- Extended a contract for 911 dispatch services that was set to expire April 1
- General briefing on municipal pandemic response efforts to date

  • There will not be a formal Council meeting on Monday, March 23.
  • However, there will be a virtual public information session that will be televised on Cable 10 and live streamed/archived on the city website that will include:

- The Elliot Lake Family Health Team will provide an update on matters related to Covid-19 locally
- City administration will brief the public on the items covered in the emergency meeting, the Age Friendly Task Force projects and other municipal servicing updates.
- Update the public on what to expect for future Council/Committee meetings now that the province has relaxed some rules re. electronic participation by Council members

Age Friendly Task Force:

  • Age Friendly Delivers has begun operations delivering essential groceries and hygiene products to vulnerable populations. In addition to the hotline (705 849 0970) potential clients can fill in a contact form on the municipal website/covid 19 page.
  • Age Friendly Check-Ins is another new service for those vulnerable persons in isolation who do not have a local contact or family to check-in on them on a daily basis by phone or email. You can register for this program starting today by calling 705-849-0970 OR email [email protected].

Other Notes:

  • The City is implementing a combination of: working from home, staggered shifts, social distancing and similar efforts in the workplace to reduce risk to our city workers.
  • Because of this, some services may be discontinued without notice or appear different than users are accustomed. We will continue to make every effort to inform the public on any changes to municipal services and appreciate the public’s patience during this evolving pandemic period.
  • The public is asked to refrain from flushing paper towels or flushable wipes in the toilet. The manufacturer‘s term “flushable” is not accurate. Anything thicker than toilet paper or Kleenex/tissue paper can cause serious problems for both a homeowner’s sewage pipes and municipal sewage infrastructure.
