NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF ELLIOT LAKE
****************************
Because of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the traditional Clean-Up Week format must be amended and is replaced by landfill tipping fee amnesty. Please be patient as the landfill operator will limit the number of vehicles allowed into the landfill at any one time.

Residents are permitted to bring to the landfill approximately 2 cubic meters (equivalent of a full size half-ton truck box) of waste at no charge.

Tipping fees will be waived for residential waste at the Landfill site on the following dates:
    •    Monday, May 25: noon to 7 p.m.
    •    Wednesday, May 27 to Friday, May 29: noon to 7 p.m.
    •    Saturday, May 30: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Regular tipping fees remain in place on Tuesday, May 26.

In order to reduce landfill operating costs and extend landfill life, we ask that waste be separated such as metal from household items or yard waste. Other items not welcomed at the landfill can be disposed of:
    •    Electronics: can be left at 10 Kilborn Way
    •    Oil and tires: can be brought to Choice Tire at 6 Oakland Blvd. (during business hours only and must speak to Choice Tire staff)
    •    Vehicle batteries: can be brought to Napa on Highway 108
    •    Think before you throw: can it be donated, sold or up-cycled?

Regular tipping fees will apply to commercial, construction and demolition waste.

Hazardous waste is not accepted at the landfill at any time. That includes: paints and coatings (and their empty containers), solvents, oil and containers, oil filters, batteries, antifreeze and containers, fluorescent lights, fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides and containers, car bodies, parts and tires.

Household Hazardous Waste Day has been delayed to the fall: tentatively booked for Wednesday, Sept. 2 (subject to any pandemic limitations in place at that time).

Leaf and Yard Waste Curbside Collection Day: Wednesday, May 20
Leaves must be in a compostable clear plastic bag or paper bag and placed at the curb no later than 7:30 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday, May 20.

Only leaves and small twigs will be collected. Large branches, scrap metal or other yard waste will not be collected.
