NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF ELLIOT LAKE
******************************
The City of Elliot Lake in coordination with the Elliot Lake Family Health Team are issuing a very strong recommendation for vulnerable members of our population to start practicing self-isolation immediately. It is crucial that those 70 years of age and older as well as those that are immunocompromised or living with chronic disease do not leave their homes unless absolutely necessary until further notice.

The City and its partners are developing a program for those who are home bound that require the essentials such as groceries, personal hygiene products, prescriptions, etc. Further information will be provided by the end of today.

It is important to remember that all measures put in place are intended to 'flatten the curve' by slowing the potential rate of infection and minimize the amount of people becoming ill at the same time.

It is our top priority to keep our community members safe. We remind all those not in self-isolation to practice social distancing, wash your hands frequently and stay home whenever possible.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has declared a state of emergency in the province today in a bid to combat the spread of COVID-19. This move means the immediate closure of all bars, restaurants, childcare centres, theatres and recreation centres running until at least the end of March. Restaurants may still operate take out service but must close dine-in services.

Again, updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
