Blind River Mayor Sally Hagman used her regular public address, which she delivers prior to the start of council meetings, to reiterate the work being done in the community to prevent any possible spread of COVID-19.

As of March 13, “all municipal recreational programs were cancelled as well as the closure of the arena and museum and the Senior’s Centre for the foreseeable future unless otherwise stated,” the mayor stated Monday evening of the steps taken just prior to the start of Spring Break.

Residents are being urged to limit their attendance at the municipal office which is currently operating and remains open. Mayor Hagman said residents should attempt to make any municipal payments online, through their banks or at a drop box that will be set up at the office next week for those unable to make payments online.

Residents are being asked to contact the town office prior to attendance for matters such as marriage licences, cemetery arrangements, building permits and lottery licences.

“Staff are available to assist you by phone.”

“The town of Blind River will continue to take guidance from senior levels of government and health authorities and will continue to focus on the wellbeing of staff and residents,” the mayor said. “As our federal and provincial leaders have been stating, please practice social distancing, self-isolation if required and stay home unless it is critical that you attend public facilities.”

“This is a global pandemic that we are all going through together,” she added. “We realize this is an inconvenience to residents, but we ask for your assistance and patience at this time.”
