Blind River residents will get a chance to see the town’s draft budget this week.

With COVID-19 restrictions in place, the budget will be presented via Zoom for residents. Residents to submit questions on Thursday prior to the online meeting.

“This Thursday, Nov. 19, there will be a public meeting via Zoom at 7 p.m. for the public to see the draft budget and user fees. If you have any questions about the proposed budget ~ these questions can be sent via email prior to 3 p.m. on Thursday to [email protected],” said Mayor Sally Hagman.

A link for the Zoom meeting can be found at the town website at www.blindriver.ca.

“It’s budget time and that means a lot of work for our managers, directors, treasurer and CAO. All employees have been working diligently to ensure that residents are getting the right balance in ensuring that the community needs are being looked after while not gouging the ratepayers’ pocketbooks. Council has been working with staff to ensure we are meeting this balance,” she said.

“With the escalation of COVID-19 cases in the province, I would like to thank residents of Blind River for continuing to be vigilant about hand sanitizing, wearing a mask and staying socially distant.  Our frontline workers are to be congratulated on the excellent service they continue to provide for our community.  These are difficult times and your town is continually working for you to ensure the safe wellbeing of everyone,” added Mayor Hagman.

The mayor added rumours of the virus in the community are unsubstantiated and can only to be confirmed by Algoma Public Health in its regular reporting.
