SooToday received the following information from the Algoma District School Board answering common questions parents and students may have regarding the coming two-week school closure:

Is the school board going to extend the school year?
The decision to extend the school year would be made by the Ministry of Education. We have not received direction from them on this, but are aware they are looking at all options.

Are students expected to do assignments online during the two week break?
Students are certainly able to do any work that has been assigned for that period. We will continue to assess the situation and the impact and will provide further information, as necessary over the two weeks. The Ministry has indicated there will be information forthcoming on this topic.

Since teachers are still being paid, are they expected to do online training or work during the two week shut down?
To be clear, the two week period is not vacation. Teachers are working from home and we are continuing to evaluate the situation and to communicate with the Ministry about supporting program.
