ONTARIO: Investigation underway following death at Marathon's Barrick Gold Mine

MARATHON, Ont. - The Ontario Ministry of Labour and the Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a sudden death at the Barrick Gold Mine 40 kilometres east of Marathon.

According to the OPP, officers with the Marathon detachment along with Superior North EMS responded to reports of a possible fatality at the Barrick Gold Mine on July 14, 2021 at approximately 9:55 p.m.

Medical staff on the scene advised first responders that the individual was deceased.

The man has been identified as 48-year-old Troy Cameron of Marathon.

A post mortem examination will take place in Toronto to determine the cause of death. The Ontario Ministry of Labour in conjunction with the OPP have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

A spokesperson with the OPP said the death is not being treated as a criminal matter.
