An Ottawa professor says there's no evidence to suggest Indigenous Canadians are any more hesitant than anyone else to get a COVID-19 vaccination.

While some maintain colonialism and systemic racism have fostered mistrust in vaccines, Veldon Coburn at the University of Ottawa's Institute of Indigenous Studies says surveys have actually shown little difference between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people when it comes to getting annual flu shots.

Data also suggests overwhelming support among First Nations and Inuit people for childhood vaccinations.

Coburn adds the vast majority of Indigenous people want to get a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible.
