July 6, 1923 – February 19, 2024
It is with heavy hearts we had to say goodbye to this remarkable women, a true pioneer of Elliot Lake, on Monday February 19, 2024 at the age of 100. Predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Mel Bray in 2003, and by her son-in-law Everett Allen in 2001. Survived by her daughters Darla Allen MacPhail (Grant), Carole Sheffied (Tim) and granddaughters Laurie Vezina (Roch), Barbie Allen and Sarah Sheffield. Also survived by stepgrandchildren Tammy MacPhail, Eddie MacPhail (Hazel), as well as 8 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. Eva also leaves behind her sister Wilma Philips (Ron). Her grandchildren were the love of her life. She took delight being with them.
Eva loved to travel. She drove across Canada coast to coast numerous times and would go off the beaten path to explore. She travelled to Hawaii and numerous other destinations in the U.S.A. She also travelled across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and many other destinations. We use to tease her and say she must be part Gypsy. As a natural athlete, she was active and excelled in many sports. Her proudest accomplishment was skipping an 8 ender in 1976. She broke her hip when she was 96, needed a wheelchair and then proceeded to wear out several pair of shoes while travelling around the Manor. She never stopped. She sure gave the staff at the Manor a run for their money.
We would like to thank the staff and management at Huron Lodge where she resided for 4 years. We would also like to thank the staff and management at St. Joseph’s Manor for the excellent care and compassion they gave our Mother for the last 7 years
A graveside committal service will take place in Woodlands Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions to St. Joseph’s Foundation of Elliot Lake (St. Joseph’s Manor) or to the Oncology Renovation Project would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre (36 Ontario Ave). Online condolences to Eva’s family may be made at www.elliotlakefuneralchapel.com
