St. Joseph’s General Hospital - Elliot Lake CEO Jeremy Stevenson will be stepping down.
He informed the hospital board Thursday of his resignation for personal reasons, effective Aug. 19.
Stevenson has served in the position for three and a half years.
In a telephone call this afternoon, SJGH board chair Elaine Johnston told ElliotLakeToday they're sad to see Stevenson go, but they understand his reasons.
She added Stevenson plans to help with the transition as much as he can.
"We’re going to work with Jeremy to make sure it’s a smooth transition, but we’re going to have to start the process for recruitment. It’s always a challenge for a hospital our size, and also many hospitals,” said Johnston. "Health care, as you probably know, is very complex, and there's lots of issues in the health care system. And I also say this too: finding someone that will relocate, and you know that housing is always an issue, even in Elliot Lake."
“It’s making sure that we have a candidate that’s willing to come, that is well qualified to provide what we need in the community. But we have a number of thoughts and ideas about that so we’re going to start that process.”
Johnston emphasized the board's top priority is to have the hospital provide quality care to its patients.
"So, we’re committed to continuing that, even though Jeremy is leaving us," she stated.
ElliotLakeToday reported Stevenson's Jan. 4, 2021 hiring here.
