On Dec. 9, 2017, shortly before 8 a.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment responded to a theft at residence on Owen Street in the Town of Thessalon.

Investigation determined that on the evening of Dec. 8, 2017 shortly after 11 p.m. an unknown male dressed in dark clothing entered a property on Owen Street. A neighbour observed this male on the property with a piece of downspout. The male continued on with the downspout to a pick-up truck that was locked and parked in front of a lot next door to complainant where he had attempted to enter it. 

On this evening it had snowed and police followed footwear impressions to a back yard on Government Road where a shed had been rummaged through and the footwear impressions continued northbound and ended at another residence on Government Road.

As a result of the investigation, Kyle Parnell, 32 years of age from Thessalon, Ont. was charged with:

  • Theft under $5,000 contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC); and with
  • Trespassing at night, contrary to section 177 of the CC.

The accused was released on a Recognizance of Bail and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on Dec. 18, 2017.
