Wanted Blind River woman found with mace, police say

MISSISSAUGA FIRST NATION - On Jan. 15, 2019, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol on Highway 17 within the Territory of Mississauga First Nation.

Shortly after 4 p.m., police observed a vehicle on Highway 17 and conducted a traffic stop. A query on the female driver revealed she was wanted by Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and was arrested. As she was being searched the officers located a self-defence product known as mace.

As a result of the investigation, Kristen Beemer, 33 years of age from Blind River, Ont., was returned to Sault Ste. Police Service and charged with possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to section 92(2) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Feb. 4, 2019.
