Vehicle hits light post. Driver charged with impaired

On Dec. 20, 2017 at 4:17 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members received a call of a motor vehicle that had struck a light post on Hillside Drive North in the City of Elliot Lake, Ont.

OPP officers and Algoma Paramedic Services attended the scene. The male driver was treated and released by paramedics. Upon speaking to the male driver, police detected a strong odour of alcohol emanating from his breath. As a result, the male was arrested, driver's license suspended, and the vehicle was towed and impounded.

George Lendak, 33 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ont. was charged with:

  • Care or control over 80 mgs, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC) and
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Jan. 2, 2018.
