Two face firearms charges in driveway skeet-shooting incident

Officers find clay skeet thrower and two men with prohibited firearms after numerous 911 calls about possible gunshots or explosions

On Sept. 26, 2020, shortly after 6 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to numerous 911 calls regarding what people believed to be gunshots or possibly dynamite coming from an area on Wagoosh Lake Road within the Township of the North Shore. A short time later police attended the residential area and could hear gunshots in a distance.

The officers walked northbound on Wagoosh Lake Road and observed two males standing at the base of a driveway in a cul-de-sac. Officers observed ammunition, a 12 gauge shotgun, a semi-automatic .22 rifle, a bolt action 300 magnum rifle, along with empty casings and clay targets. In addition, a restricted handgun was located in a vehicle the men were operating.

A clay skeet thrower was located on the roadway and in the middle of the cul-de-sac was residue from an explosive Tannerite target with damage to the roadway.

Police seized the firearms, ammunition and the Tannerite kits.

As a result of the investigation, Marcel Boisvenue, age 39 from Englehart was charged with:

  • Careless Use of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon at Unauthorized Place, contrary to section 93(b) of the CC;
  • Breach of Firearms Regulations-Transport Firearm or Restricted Weapon, contrary to section 86(2) of the CC;
  • Mischief Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC; and with
  • Disturb the Peace, contrary to section 175(1)(d) of the CC.

The Firearm Licence of this accused was seized.

Anthony Grzesiak, age 36 from Temiskaming Shores, was charged with:

  • Careless Use of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Mischief Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC; and with
  • Disturb the Peace, contrary to section 175(1)(d) of the CC.

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Nov. 5, 2020.
