Traffic stop results in several charges

Investigation also revealed that the validation tag was expired and the vehicle was not insured

On March 18, 2018 at 4:52 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were on regular patrol duties on Highway 108, in the City of Elliot Lake, Ont.

Police observed a vehicle travelling in excess of the posted speed limit. This observation was confirmed by radar and a subsequent traffic stop was conducted. Investigation also revealed that the validation tag was expired and the vehicle was not insured. As a result, the driver was charged and the vehicle was towed.  

Jeffrey Doyle, 35 years of age, from Val Caron, Ont. was charged with:

  • Operate motor vehicle on a highway - no insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA),
  • Drive motor vehicle - no validation on plate, contrary to section 7(1)(c)(i) of the highway Traffic Act (HTA),
  • Speeding (1 - 49km/hr) over the posted limit, contrary to section 128 of the HTA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on May 2, 2018.
