Wikwemikong man accused of driving without insurance, valid permit

ESPANOLA - On Saturday, April 21, 2018, an officer from the Manitoulin-Espanola Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 6 in the Town of Espanola, Ont. 

At approximately 12:39 p.m., the officer observed a traffic violation and conducted a traffic stop. Investigation revealed that the vehicle was not insured.

As a result of the investigation, Peter Otosquaiob, age 63, of Wikwemikong First Nation Territory, Ont., has been charged with:

  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act; and
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit contrary to section 7(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, Ont. on June 28, 2018.
