On Feb. 17, 2018 at 1:47 a.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police members were conducting regular patrol duties on Bouck Road in the City of Elliot Lake, Ont. 

A vehicle was observed to be operating with no number plate light. Police subsequently stopped the vehicle and spoke to the female driver. A strong odour of alcohol beverage was detected emanating from her breath. She was also required to have an ignition interlock system in her vehicle, and this one did not. Subsequently, the female was arrested, driver's license suspended, and the vehicle was towed.

Sharon Nicholls, 63 years of age from Elliot Lake, was charged with:

  • Driving while ability impaired - motor vehicle (alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Driving while more than 80 mgs. of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Driving while disqualified - court order, contrary to section 259(4) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Mar. 19, 2018.
