Traffic stop leads to impaired charges

ELLIOT LAKE - On July 22, 2017 at 9:10 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members were conducting regular patrol duties on Highway 108, just south of the City of Elliot Lake.

A vehicle was observed to be operating erratically. Police subsequently stopped the vehicle and spoke to the female driver. A strong odour alcohol was detected emanating from her breath. Subsequently, the female was arrested, driver's license suspended, and the vehicle was towed.

Jennifer Josephine Vanderveer, 39 years of age from Elliot Lake, was charged with:

  • Driving while ability Impaired - motor vehicle (Alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Driving while more than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Aug. 1, 2017.
