Traffic complaints lead to charges for Elliot Lake driver

SPANISH - On Oct. 6, 2017, shortly after 6 p.m., members from the East Algoma Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment responded to three separate traffic complaints involving a westbound pickup truck swerving all over the road and passing unsafely on Highway 17 west of the Town of Spanish. 

The pickup truck passed another westbound pick-up towing a pontoon boat and causing damage to one of the pontoons.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m., the pickup truck was located on Highway 108 south of the City of Elliot Lake and a traffic stop was initiated.

As a result of the investigation, Otto Pedersen, 73 years of age from Elliot Lake, Ont., was issued two provincial offence notices and charged with:

  • Fail to report accident, contrary to section 199(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA); and with
  • Unsafe move-lane or shoulder, contrary to section 154(1)(a) of the HTA.
