Traffic complaint leads to impaired driving charges in Espanola

The driver is facing a pair of charges as a result of the stop

On Sept. 24, 2020, at approximately 9:58 p.m. members from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint in Espanola.

Police located the vehicle on Centre Street and determined the driver had been consuming alcohol. As a result of the investigation, the driver was arrested and transported to the Espanola OPP detachment where further testing was conducted.

As a result, the driver John Bos, 27 years old, of Astorville was charged with:  

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and
  • Operation While Impaired, - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Nov. 2, 2020, in Espanola.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
