Three taken to hospital following Highway 108 crash

On Oct. 23, 2019 at approximately 1:15 p.m., the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police, Elliot Lake Fire Department, and Algoma Paramedic Services responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 108 south of the City of Elliot Lake, Ont.

A northbound sport utility vehicle (SUV) crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a southbound minivan. The driver and occupant of the minivan and the driver of the SUV were taken to hospitals in Blind River and Elliot Lake with non-life altering injuries. The highway was closed for a brief period of time while emergency crews conducted their investigation.  

Ronald Smith, 66 years of age, from York, Ont. was charged with:  

  • Careless driving causing bodily harm, contrary to section 130(3) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
