Three face drug charges following traffic stop in Little Current

LITTLE CURRENT - On June 7, 2020 at approximately 2 a.m., members from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checks in Little Current.

A vehicle entered the spot check and officers determined the driver had provided a false name to police. The investigation revealed the driver and occupants were in possession of suspected cocaine and oxycodone with an estimated street value of $430 and a quantity of Canadian currency over $5,000.

As a result, all three occupants were arrested and charged.

Kristan Panamick, 29 years old, of M'Chigeeng First Nation was charged with:
    •    Obstruct peace officer contrary to section 129(a) of the CC,
    •    Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin) contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA, 
    •    Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000 - in Canada contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC, and
    •    Driving while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on July 29, 2020.  

Shannon Paibomsai, 31 years old, of Sudbury was charged with:
    •    Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin) 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), and
    •    Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000 - in Canada contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on July 29, 2020.

Kyle Wilson, 24 years old, of York, was charged with:
    •    Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin) contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
    •    Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000 - in Canada contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC, and
    •    Possession of a Schedule I Substance - cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Gore Bay on July 29, 2020.

As there was no licensed driver available, the vehicle was towed from the highway.
