Three charged in purse theft investigation

SPANISH - On Friday, March 23, 2018, at approximately 2 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a theft of two purses from a local gas station in the Town of Spanish. A male and two females left in a vehicle in a westbound direction on Highway 17.

Shortly before 2:20 p.m., police observed the suspect vehicle near the junction of Highway 17 and Frampet Drive in the Town of Blind River. A traffic stop was initiated and officers located two purses matching the description given in the vehicle. The three occupants of the vehicle were arrested and transported to the Blind River OPP Detachment.

As a result of the investigation, the male driver Ion Alexandru, 23 years of age from Scarborough, Ont. was charged with theft under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC).

Ruxandra Constantin, 21 years of age from Scarborough, Ont. was charged with possession property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC.

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on June 7, 2018.

A 17-year-old female from Scarborough, Ont. was charged with theft under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC.

The accused young offender is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on June 14, 2018.
