Three charged after officers respond to domestic incidents

Charges include assault with a weapon and uttering death threats

On Dec. 8, 2017, shortly before 6 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Mississauga Avenue in the City of Elliot Lake.

Investigation determined that a couple had been separated since April 2017 and on this date a male attended his ex-common-law wife's residence where arguments ensued throughout the day.

During the arguments the male spat in the female face several times and threatened to physically harm her. The male left the residence in an unknown direction in his vehicle. A short time later police located the male at a residence on Spruce Avenue and he was arrested.

As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old male from Iron Bridge, Ont. was charged with: 

  • Assault - spousal (x2), contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC); and with
  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm - spousal, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Jan. 2, 2018.

On Dec. 10, 2017, shortly after 10 a.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Bailey Lane in the City of Elliot Lake.

Police received information that a female had been assaulted by her boyfriend and the male had left their residence. Later that afternoon police received another call advising the same couple were at a residence on Mississauga Avenue.

Investigation determined the female had lied to police about the morning incident and it was the male who was physically assaulted earlier this morning and on Oct. 25, 2017 the male was assaulted by the female with an edged weapon.

As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old female from Elliot Lake, Ont. was charged with:

  • Obstruct peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Public mischief, contrary to section 140(1)(c) of the CC
  • Assault with a weapon - spousal, contrary to section 267(a) of the CC; and with
  • Assault - spousal, contrary to section 266 of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Feb. 6, 2018.

On Dec. 11, 2017, shortly after 9 a.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment responded to a domestic disturbance involving a couple from the City of Elliot Lake.

Investigation determined that a male had made threats to physically harm a female on three separate occasions between Jan. 1, 2017 and Dec. 11, 2017.

As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old male from Elliot Lake, Ont. was charged with:

  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm - spousal, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code; and with
  • Obstruct peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC.

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail in Sault Ste. Marie on Dec. 12, 2017.
