Three arrested in series of break and enters in Blind River

Police say a number of items were stolen and the victim was threatened in at least one instance

BLIND RIVER  - On Jan. 2, 2020 at 9:10 a.m., members of the East Algoma OPP responded to a break and enter at a residence in Blind River.

The investigation has since revealed that on the previous evening, the residence was broken into and a number of items were stolen from the residence. Police further learned that the same person responsible for the break and enter also had unlawfully entered the residence throughout the month of December, 2019 and threatened the victim.

As a result of the investigation, Keith Vanevery, 29 years of age from Huron Shores Township, Ontario was arrested and charged with;

  • Assault with a weapon, two counts, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and
  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC; and
  • Break, enter a place - with intent to commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the CC; and
  • Unlawfully in a dwelling house, contrary to section 349(1) of the CC; and
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, contrary to section 355(b) of the CC

The accused was held in custody pending a video bail hearing.

Michael Chiblow, 49 years of age from Mississauga First Nation was also arrested and charged with unlawfully in a dwelling, contrary to section 349(1) of the CC.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on March 5, 2020.

MISSISSAUGA FIRST NATION - On Jan. 5, 2020 at 7:56 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence on the Mississauga First Nation.

The investigation has since revealed that over the preceding weekend, a residence was broken into and extensive damage was done to the interior walls and property.

As a result of the investigation, Keith Vanevery, 29 years of age from Huron Shores Township, Ontario was arrested and charged with;

  • Unlawfully in a dwelling house, contrary to section 349(1) of the CC; and
  • Mischief under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC

The accused was held in custody pending a video bail hearing.

Roni Boyer-Gionette, 25 years of age of no fixed address was charged with;

  • Mischief under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Feb. 6, 2020.
