Theft at local grocery store

On Nov. 4, 2017, at 3:09 p.m. members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a theft call from the manager at a local grocery store in the City of Elliot Lake. 

The complainant reported finding a purse in a grocery cart outside in the cart corral. Inside the purse were numerous grocery store items. After viewing the store video surveillance, it showed a woman putting two food merchandise items into the purse and then going through the cash checkout without paying for the items.     

After police investigation, on Nov. 15, 2017, the female responsible was located and arrested.

Laurianne Denis, 24 years of age, from Blind River was charged with:

  • Theft under $5000, contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code (CC)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, on Dec. 5, 2017.
