Suspected cocaine found during Webbwood traffic stop

WEBBWOOD - On Jan. 19, 2020 at approximately 3:25 a.m., a member of the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) initiated a vehicle stop on Highway 17 in Webbwood, Ont.

Further investigation revealed that the driver was in possession of suspected controlled substances.

John Bulmer, 59 years old, of the Serpent River First Nation, Ont., was arrested and charged with the following:
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance - cocaine contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
    •    Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code (CC) contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) CC,
    •    Drive while under suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), and
    •    Use plate not authorized for vehicle contrary to section 12(1)(d) HTA.

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on March 2, 2020.
