MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES - At around noon on Feb. 21, 2018, members of the Blind River Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment, supported by the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Sault Ste. Marie OPP Canine unit, arrested a male and female who had previously evaded OPP officers in Kenora, Wawa and Sault Ste. Marie.

On Feb. 20, 2018, members from the Kenora OPP Detachment responded to a theft of a pick-up truck in the City of Kenora. On Feb. 21, 2018, shortly after 7 a.m., members from the Superior East Wawa OPP Detachment responded to a theft of gas involving the stolen pick-up in the Town of Wawa.

At approximately 9 a.m. on Feb. 21, 2018, members from the Sault Ste Marie OPP Detachment observed the stolen pick-up truck travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 17 north of the City of Sault Ste Marie. Officers made several attempts to stop the vehicle but were unsuccessful.

The vehicle was later spotted by members of the East Algoma Thessalon OPP Detachment, travelling east on Highway 17 through the towns of Bruce Mines and Thessalon.

At around 10 a.m., members of the East Algoma Blind River OPP Detachment successfully deployed two spike belts on Highway 17 (Harris Creek area) in the Municipality of Huron Shores. Once the pick-up truck came to a stop in a ditch, both the male driver and female passenger fled from police into a wooded area. Both the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Sault Ste. Marie OPP Canine were called in to assist.

At around 11 a.m., police received an intrusion alarm call from a residence on Fowler Road in the Municipality of Huron Shores. While patrolling the area, police noticed a vehicle leaving a residence on Portage Road in the same vicinity.

The driver of the vehicle attempted to evade police by driving off the road into a ditch. The OPP ERT and Canine members apprehended the male and female and they were identified as being the same individuals who had been in the stolen pick-up earlier that day.
