Stolen vehicle recovered during traffic stop: OPP

The 39-year-old driver faces multiple charges as a result

On March 23, 2021 at approximately 12:50 p.m. the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a stolen vehicle occurrence on Mississauga Avenue in Elliot Lake.   

The owner advised police of a female suspect who was known to them who they believed had stolen the vehicle a couple days prior.     

At approximately 3:10 p.m. police observed the vehicle while on patrol. A traffic stop was conducted on Spruce Avenue near an apartment complex. The driver was subsequently arrested and charged.  

Jennifer Stubbert, 39 years of age, of Elliot Lake was charged with:   

  • Theft over $5000 of a motor vehicle, contrary to section 334(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), 
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC, 
  • Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).  

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on April 6, 2021.
