Shirtless man allegedly knocking on doors faces charge

OPP responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex on Hudson Street in the Town of Blind River where an intoxicated male was causing a disturbance in the common area of the complex

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On Dec. 16, 2018, shortly before 4:30 p.m., members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex on Hudson Street in the Town of Blind River where an intoxicated male was causing a disturbance in the common area of the complex.  

Police attended a short time later and the male was assisted back to his apartment where he advised police he would remain inside for the rest of the evening and sleep it off.

An hour later police received another complaint involving the same male who was on the first floor shirtless and knocking on doors. Police attended and arrested the male.

As a result of the investigation, Raymond BERGERON, 59 years of age from Blind River, Ontario, arrested, issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: Being Intoxicated in a Common Area, contrary to section 31(4) of the Liquor Licence Act.

The accused was transported to East Algoma Blind River detachment where he was lodged until sober.

Drive under suspension - male charged

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On Dec. 15, 2018, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Police observed an eastbound vehicle pass his location on Causley Street and queried the licence plate revealing the driver's licence was currently suspended. Shortly before 2:30 p.m., police located the vehicle and a traffic stop was initiated.

As a result of the investigation, Alan WRIGHT, 64 years of age from Blind River, Ontario was charged with:  Drive While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Feb. 20, 2019.

Driver refuses to provide breath sample 

(BLIND RIVER, ON)- On Dec. 19, 2018, members from the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties on Causley Street in the Town of Blind River.

Shortly before 1:30 a.m., police observed a pick-up truck pull out of a laneway between Lawton Avenue and Woodward Avenue. The vehicle proceeded east onto Murray Street. Police conducted a licence plate check revealing the plate was expired and a traffic stop was initiated.

While the officer was speaking to the driver, the officer determined the male driver had consumed alcohol.  A breath demand was read to the driver where he refuse to provide a breath sample.

The male driver's licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

As a result of the investigation, Michael ARNDT, 31 years of age from Pickering, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand, contrary to section 320.15(1) of the Criminal Code; and with
  • Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit, contrary to section 7(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is schedule to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Jan. 17, 2019.
