Sexual assault investigation leads to 15 charges against former Blind River resident

BLIND RIVER - On Nov. 29, 2018, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment commenced an investigation into a historical sexual assault that occurred between Jan. 1, 1985 and Dec. 31, 2014.

As a result of the investigation, Kim Shanahan, 60 years of age from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., (formerly of Blind River, Ont.), has been charged with:

  • Sexual interference (x5), contrary to section 151 of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age (x5), contrary to section 271 of the CC;
  • Invitation of sexual touching under 16 years of age, contrary to section 152 of the CC;
  • Sexual assault (x3), contrary to section 246.1 of the CC; and with
  • Sexual assault, contrary to section 271 of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River, Ont. on Feb. 14, 2019.
