Police seize over $13K, seven cell phones in Iron Bridge traffic stop

MUNICIPALITY OF HURON SHORES – On June 4, 2020, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on patrol duties on Hwy 17 in the Town of Iron Bridge.  

At approximately 10:52 p.m., police observed an eastbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and initiated a traffic stop. While speaking to the driver, police observed the two passengers not wearing their seatbelt assemblies.    

A query revealed one of the passengers was breaching his release order, failing to abide by his curfew. Subsequently, the male was arrested and searched. In all, police seized over $13,000 in cash and seven cell phones believed to be proceeds of crime.  

As a result of the investigation, the driver Emmanuel Aifuwa, age 25, from Barrie, was charged with: 

  • Stunt driving-excessive speed, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.  

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court Justice in Blind River on Aug. 19, 2020.  

Khaled Haquari, age 18, from Toronto, was charged with:  

  • Failure to comply with release order, contrary to section 145(5)(1) of the Criminal Code,  
  • Passenger failed to properly wear seatbelt, contrary to section 106(3)(b) of the Highway Traffic Act.  

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Aug. 6, 2020.  

Dennis Darka, age 22, from Toronto, was charged with:  

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code,    
  • Passenger failed to properly wear seatbelt, contrary to section 106(3)(b) of the Highway Traffic Act.    

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on Aug. 6, 2020.
