Police seize over $10K worth of drugs in Espanola bust

Police also seized over $9,000 in Canadian currency; two people face multiple charges as a result

On Jan. 11, 2022, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), Canine Unit and the Emergency Response Team (ERT), executed a Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA) search warrant at a residence on John Street in Espanola.

A search of the residence led to the seizure of cellular phones, electronic devices, drug paraphernalia, over $9000 in Canadian currency, almost 80 grams of suspected Fentanyl, and over 22 grams of suspected Cocaine. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is over $10,000.

Orvelle Buckley, 36-years-old from Sudbury was charged with:

  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5000 - in Canada, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Resist peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC
  • Obstruct peace officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - Opioid (Other Than Heroin), contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - Other Drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on January 14, 2022.

Philippe Julien, 35-years-old from Espanola was charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on March 7, 2022.
